I. Love. College.
I love my roommates. I love late-night runs to the creamery for munchies, intense conditioning classes taught by me, and nonstop quoting of kid history. I love baking cookies and running through the sprinklers together. I love our study sessions and our movie and game nights. I love it when Kieren plays the piano Sunday mornings while the rest of us sing, and I love planning trips to the temple. I love our dance parties and our FHE group. I love laughing to myself when I hear Haley talk or giggle in her sleep. I love love love love love my roommates!!
There is so much to do here, which makes dating or hanging out with friends so much more fun. I've gone to volleyball games (free pizza!), played ultimate frisbee, gone on scavenger hunts (parkour!!), hiked the Y, thrown up on the rides at Brigham square carnival, watched BYU football, gone put-put golfing (we saw a snake eating a fish!) , attended tons of dances, eaten cotton candy at the latinoamericano festival, watched kung foo panda at the varsity theater, and gone to the temple.
Classes are exciting and slightly disturbing (if anyone ever dumps termites on your desk, make sure you have an escape route!), but I am enjoying them so much. I just added a geology class yesterday, which should be interesting... I had to get another 3 credits because my dance teacher told me I had to drop her class after I pulled my hamstring...apparently I won't be able to heal fast enough to keep up...? ...anyway, Chris took the class I am taking, and he says it is fun and easy and there are lots of hikes up the canyon, with little or no homework....plus it is a GE, so I think this was a good choice... I will have more free time now, anyway, now that I'm not taking that 2 hr a day dance class, and I am going to work out more with my roommates, so I don't think I'll get too fat.
I'm excited for this week. I have so many things on my to-do list, but I think I will be okay, and I have the weekend to look forward to...Chris asked me to go to the Indian festival downtown, should be lots of exciting food!
Anyway, I have to go to Book Of Mormon, I have a ton of work to turn in and more to be assigned. Life!
Which geology class did you add? If it's Life of the Past with Brooks Britt, you're in for a real treat--that was one of my favorite undergrad classes. (If not, well, you'll still have hikes up the canyon! Just try to remember all the cool stuff you learn about rocks; it's great for impressing people on hikes.)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're having so much fun. Take care of your leg!
its intro to geology with robert nixon. im very excited about it.
ReplyDeleteSounds very cool. Good luck getting caught up--though you've switched early enough there shouldn't be much to get caught up on.
ReplyDeleteThat Indian festival date sounds very fun. I think I'm going to Idaho this weekend, so I'll miss seeing you, but you'll have to tell me about it when I get back! (Or blog...)
Ooh, I loved geology, both as a student and as a TA! Utah is such a fabulous place to study it...just watch you; you'll find yourself analyzing every bit of rock you see (ooh look, granite caps on the library retaining walls!)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're having such a good time. We got your letter today and I really enjoyed reading it. I remember freshman year as just being SO much fun. (Just remember to date lots of people and spread the fun around! Planning cool group dates with new people you'd like to get to know is seriously one of the best parts of freshman year. Like the "Fish Date," where we made fish for dinner, decorated with Swedish Fish and fish-shaped lights, and then watched Jaws. Sometimes my roommates and I would just get the ward directory, go through and pick 6 guys we thought would be fun to get to know, and then each of us would ask them out. Always so much fun...another really cool date we did was one that had sort of an adventure theme, and we rented canoes and went down the Provo River to Utah Lake, had a huge bonfire/cookout, and then went back to our apartment and built a blanket fort and watched Goonies. We had so much fun just picking themes for our dates and then going crazy with that idea, like the "Gone With the Wind" date or the "mountain fun date" (making pizzas, shooting clay pigeons, and chasing elk in our cars on this guy's elk ranch who was in our ward.) Anyway this comment is way too long.
I'm so, so glad that you are having such a great time. Having roommates you really like is seriously one of the greatest blessings you can have your freshman year. I'm glad you're having such fantastic experiences in so many ways, both fun and joyous. I hope you can make the temple a part of your schedule throughout this year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck catching up in geology! I know you'll do it quickly. It should be a rewarding class. Love you, kiddo.
Rachael's freshman year was MUCH cooler than mine. Follow her example. :)
ReplyDeletethanks for your comments! ...sorry it took me so long to read them... Rachael, those dates sound so fun!! ...I've been doing a LOT of dates outside... the other day I went on a hike up to bridal veil falls and then we had a bonfire, it was a blast. I've been having so much fun with Jenna C. and Kieren especially, we tend to hang out together a lot. I'm glad you got that letter....write back!!!
